DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 1: Taking cognizance of the alarming increase of drug trafficking in Assam, the Karbi Anglong Police has upped the ante to stop the flow of drugs and other narcotic substances into the State from the neighboring Manipur and Nagaland, through the porous Assam-Nagaland border.
The drug menace has reportedly penetrated deep in many districts of Assam and with the demand growing, particularly among teenagers, the State has become a hot bed for drug mafia.
Bokajan SDPO, John Das, APS, along with his team, has been busy on the tails of the drug mafia, courting success with seizures in large quantities and frequent arrests of drugs peddlers.
The drug lords operating reportedly from Nagaland and Manipur keep on changing their locations and despite the Bokajan SDPO’s persistent efforts they have managed to evade detection.
On August 31, in two separate operations, the Bokajan Police, under the leadership of SDPO John Das, apprehended four individuals and recovered 936 grams of heroin worth more than 6.5 crores in the international market, and more than 66 lakhs in the Northeast market, as per an official report.
Talking to Nagaland Page, SDPO John Das said that on August 31, at about 3 p.m., acting on a tip-off about smuggling of heroin/brown sugar, an operation was carried out under his command along with SI (UB) Charan Mohan Chetia, SI (P) Mridul Rudra Paul and staff in the area of Nothang Basti, under Khatkhati Police Station. 30 soap boxes containing 364 grams of the drug Heroin from a scooter bearing registration number NL 07 R 6728, was recovered. In this regard 2 persons have been arrested.
Das said, “During preliminary interrogation, it is revealed that the heroin came from Manipur yesterday in an LPG truck.”
Das said on the same day in another operation, acting on a tip-off, 2 more individuals were arrested when they were transporting Heroin through the Assam-Nagaland check gate at Lahorijan.
The SDPO revealed that on receiving information of two individuals smuggling drugs in a Tata DI vehicle from Dimapur, a Special Naka was set up in front of Laharijan Police post by IC Lahorijan PP SI (UB) Manujal Gogoi and staff.
John Das said around 4 a.m., a Tata DI vehicle bearing Registration Number AS 25 DC 6816 was intercepted, and after a thorough search 33 soap boxes containing 572 grams of Heroin were recovered from the spare tyre of the vehicle.
He said the preliminary test through Drug Detection Kit gave positive result for Heroin, and both the persons were arrested.
As per reports, the whole procedures took place under the personal supervision of SDPO Bokajan and in presence of OC, Dilai Police Station Raju Bahadur Chetry.
John Das said, “The fight against drugs will be fought in tougher ways in the days to come. We need to weed out the vicious cycles of drugs which are damaging the lives of many.”
“We will fight and defeat the drug lords and their peddlers”, he asserted.
While calling upon the youth of Assam to shun drug abuse, the Bokajan SDPO had a message for the drug peddlers – “Either you stop smuggling drugs or make your own way to jail.”
