Drugs worth 7cr seized in Manipur


IMPHAL, JUNE 24: Assam Rifles personnel, in separate operations launched at the Khudengthabi area near the border town of Moreh, have seized drugs worth over Rs 7 crore in the last 48 hours. The paramilitary force’s Tengnoupalbattalion seized 7.740 kg of World is Yours (WY) tablets and 690 gram of brown sugar worth around Rs 7 crore on Thursday, while was followed by the seizure of 9800 WY tablets worth Rs 49 lakh on Friday, an Assam Rifles statement said.
Based on specific inputs, the security team launched an operation on Thursday during which they recovered 2 bags containing the WY tablets and brown sugar. On Friday, the team caught Ngamjatong Mate (52) of Tuipi Lokchao village in Tengnoupal district and WY tablets worth Rs 49 lakh were recovered from him. The drugs have been handed over to Moreh Police.
These seizures came after the Narcotics and Affairs of Border and Imphal West police arrested 8 persons, including the Chairman of the autonomous district council, Lhukhosei Zou, in Chandel district, with drugs valued at over Rs 27 crore on Tuesday midnight. (TNN)
