Dimapur, November 23: Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union launched a T-shirt project at its office on November 21. The T-shirts with a touch of traditional Rengma Naga attire, along with a bookmark containing the meaning and use of the attire, aims to perpetuate the heritage of the Rengmas, a press release issued here stated.
The innovative person behind this project is Khwenhile Keppen, daughter of Er. Kenilo Keppen from Phenshünyu Village, a resident of Dimapur.
She recently completed her Masters in Literature from Sharda University, won some awards for Photography at state level (ANCSU) in 2017, and also International level cultural dance competition held at Sharda University.
Driven by the thought “modern problem, modern solution”, she aims to educate her peers and the younger Rengma generation about the culture with innovative ideas.
Profits from this T-Shirt project will go into publishing a book about Weaving which would record the process of Rengma traditional cloth making.
She hoped and prayed that more youths will come up and preserve our culture, traditions and identity.
The Union has appealed to the Naga community to step forward, collectively support and encourage the young innovative and talented minds.
