Dimapur, April 18: An introductory meeting with Advisor for NRE, IT & C, Science and Technology, Mmhonlumo Kikon was held at the Department of Science and Technology on April 17.
Addressing the officers and staff, Mmhonlumo Kikon said that the Department of Science and Technology plays a key role in formulating many of the policies in the state. He appreciated the work carried by the bio technology hub and further stated that the use of traditional knowledge can be harnessed with better research and labs. In addition, he encouraged the department to propose projects that can challenge bigger private players in the market.
Also mentioning the Nagaland Innovative Expo that concluded recently in Kohima Science College, he recommended that such programmes should be conducted on a regular basis for the academia and the public where they can find a platform to display their innovative ideas. He also suggested that an award for such can be proposed in the future under the CM fund.
Being a member of Global Citizen Climate Pledge, he emphasised on the importance of tackling climate change and suggested the Nagaland State Climate Change team to carry out discussions both at national level, international level and in forums such as Conference of Parties (COPs) conducted by UNFCC.
Welcome address was delivered by Dellirose M.Sakhrie, IAS Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Nagaland. Department activities were presented by Dr Zavei Hiese, Senior Scientific Officer, Department of Science and Technology. Some of the major achievements and projects were highlighted in his presentation.
