DIMAPUR, MAY 9: To tackle the mounting number of COVID-19 positive patients at Dimapur and Kohima, the State Health Department has decided to requisition doctors and nurses from the remaining 10 districts.
This was revealed to Nagaland Page on Sunday by the Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Neikhrielie Khimiao.
He informed that all the other 10 districts have been directed to spare 1 doctor, 2 nurses and 1 lab technician each. “They will report to the Directorate (of Health and Family Welfare). From there, they will be distributed to Dimapur and Kohima, mostly to Dimapur,” he said.
According to him, the Department has decided to adopt the approach of ‘handpicking’ doctors from places with lesser numbers of cases and deploying them where COVID cases were high.
The Principal Secretary also informed that besides the 3 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen generation plants being installed at Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung, the Union Health Ministry has offered 2 oxygen generators of 1000 LPM (litres per minute) capacity to Nagaland.
“After considering the number of cases, we have decided to install one each at CIHSR and NHAK,” he informed.
Also, Khimiao, who had a meeting with district Heath officials at Dimapur on Sunday, said that as of now District Hospital Dimapur was “comfortable” dealing with COVID cases.
“They are doing quite well as of now,” he said, adding that the district officials’ only concern was about handling the situation if the cases surge.
“I will take it up with the Government,” the Principal Director said. He added that the Department could create a centre to treat COVID patients if the beds fill up.
