Dimapur, March 22: Dimapur Municipal Council today launched GPS Vehicle Tracking System in all the dumper trucks and cesspool vehicles. This has been necessitated to monitor the movement of vehicles within the DMC jurisdiction.
Launching the online system of tracking, Commissioner of Police, Limasunep Jamir, IPS said that it was a good step for ensuring better service delivery. He said this would also ensure cost effective, transparency and accountability of government resources.
Stating that it was an innovative step, the Commissioner of Police said that technology has two-way process. He said citizens should also take advantage and make use of it.
He further said that it was important to have better monitoring system and delivery of right kind of service.
He also informed that the police department is also working on GPS tracking system. However, he said the system has lots of factors such as sustainability and maintenance cost.
He hoped that the GPS system in DMC vehicles would go a long way in maintaining transparency and delivery of goods.
Earlier, DMC Administrator, Moa Sangtam said that it was first time that DMC has come up with a system without the help of anybody from outside.
He said in August 2017, the DMC has introduced door-to-door collection of waste and as such vehicles were assigned to collect garbage. He disclosed there had been complaints that in most colonies vehicles did not go to collect waste materials, but the driver claimed they had gone.
He said since all the 25 vehicles could not be checked, the DMC decided to go for the GPS. He said GPS system has been installed in all dumpers and cesspool vehicles.
Sangtam further disclosed that they were working on a project for payment of house rent through online system, which would be made available very soon.
He also appealed to the people to make use of the online services.
It may be mentioned that last year the DMC has launched its website where facilities have been made to pay trade license fees online.
The technical details of the GPS Vehicle tracking system was explained through a power point presentation by Sariyongba B Longkumer. (Page News Service)
