DMC to ban single use plastic products from Sept 17


Dimapur, June 21: In pursuance of the State Government’s notification, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) will totally ban the sale and use of single-use plastic products under its jurisdiction from September 17.
The banned plastic products are all plastic carry bags, with or without handles, irrespective of thickness and size; plastic cutlery including plates, plastic cups, straws, stirrers etc.; cutlery and other decorative made of Styrofoam (Thermocol); polythene; nylon; Poly-Vinyl-Chlorides (PVC); Poly-Propylene and Poly-Styrene.
The DMC asked all individual, institution/commercial establishment (educational institutions, offices, hotels, shops, restaurants, religious institutions, industries, business establishments, ship keepers, banquet halls, etc) to abide by the total ban, and warned that defaulters will be liable for penalties up to Rs 2000.
The DMC informed that with a view to dispose off the old stock and to avoid financial loss of those dealing in single use plastic products, 3 months time is given from June 17, which will expire on September 16 next.
