DLSAs organizes legal awareness programmes


Dimapur, February 4: The Phek District Legal Service Authority (PDLSA) in collaboration with district police Phek today conducted a consultative meeting/awareness in matter of disclosure of victim of sexual assault/pre-arrest, arrest & remand, investigation & trials at DRDA conference hall, Phek.
Mezivolu T Therieh, NJS, District & Sessions Judge and chairperson Phek DLSA, Phek spoke on right to free legal aid in pre-arrest, arrest & remand & criminal investigation and trials. She highlighted that police and judiciary will lose its relevancy if “we fail to win the trust of the public by delivering justice without delay”.
She said that court and police should see that provisions of law are implemented be it for the accused or victims of crimes and that we have no choice to disobey it.
Vesupra Kezo, NPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek speaking on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and its Amendment Act 2019 mentioned that 90% of POCSO cases are unreported and urged the police to take such reported cases of children very seriously since with so much difficulty such cases are reported and stated that non-registration of such cases entails punishment under the Act.
Altogether, 23 police officers, officers in charge and investigating officers from all the 6 police stations under Phek district registered for the programme.
Longleng: The Longleng DLSA conducted legal awareness on Motor Vehicle Act, 2019 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 with students of Christian High School along with the students from Children Home and Tribalhood Hostel, Nyengching, Longleng on January 28 & 31.
During the awareness at Christian High School, keynote address was delivered by Imlichuba PLV. P Monyei Phom, panel lawyer spoke on Motor Vehicle Act 2019.
Mon: Mon DLSA organized one-day legal awareness programme at Holy Angel School, Tizit on January 30. N Mannon , Project Assistant DLSA Mon delivered the keynote address. She deliberated on various topics like POCSO Act, 2012, Consumer Protection Act, RTE, RTI, Child Labour among others.
Angun, panel lawyer spoke on POCSO and H Topha, panel lawyer spoke on Consumer Protection Act &RTE topics.
Peren: As part of the legal awareness campaign against the non disclosure of identity of the victim of sexual offence, the Peren DLSA conducted a mass poster campaign in the district by circulating, pasting and distributing pamphlets, posters and car stickers in various public offices in the District.
