Dimapur, October 28: The Peren District Legal Services Authority and Mon DLSA conducted one day workshop on mediation techniques with customary court officials and District Dobashis in their respective districts.
Mediation is a voluntary, party-centered and structured negotiation process where a third neutral party (mediator) assists the parties in amicably resolving their disputes by using specialized communication and negotiation techniques.
In Nagaland, Dobashis as mediators can play a vital role of settling disputes by using mediation techniques in customary courts for which training is required.
In Peren, the DLSA organized the workshop on mediation techniques with the Peren District Dobashis which was attended by 40 Dobashis from different circles under Peren District on October 23.
The chairperson for the programme Asuni (panel lawyer) highlighted the working mechanism of legal services authority. Resource person Limhathung Ezong from State Legal Services Authority spoke on the significance of mediation, the requisite skills and knowledge of a mediator and the steps to be taken in order to achieve a successful mediation between the disputed parties.
Mon DLSA on October 24 organized the training at customary court, DC Office Mon. The programme was chaired by N.Mannon, panel lawyer and welcome address delivered by M Moba, retainer lawyer.
Keynote address and topic on concept of mediation, applicability of mediation techniques in customary court, types of cases that can be referred for mediation was delivered by Seyielenuo Mezhii (NJS), Chief Judicial Magistrate cum secretary MDLSA. (Page News Service)
