Dimapur, November 20: The Kohima DLSA in collaboration with Doordarshan Kendra Kohima recorded a discussion on Nagaland Money Lenders Act 2005 on November 19 as part of monthly legal awareness activity.
The panelists were Joshua Sheqi, Advocate, Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, Apila Sangtam, PL, Vimeno, PL. The discussion emphasiszd on how the Nagaland Money Lenders Act is being implemented in the State and the importance of license that the money lenders should acquire from an authorized lender under NML Act.
They also discussed the role of the inspector who is appointed by the licensing authority. Further the panelists briefly discussed about the interest rate – 3% per annum at any given rate of loan by a money lender, the punishment for violating the interest rate given under the NML Act and the criteria pertaining to money lenders license, cancellation, jurisdiction to try such cases.
The programme will be broadcasted November 22 on at 5:30 pm on Doordarshan Kendra, Kohima and Youtube as well.
Longleng: Longleng DLSA organized awareness programme at Shamakok Mission School with Longleng Ao community on November 13. T Chingyau Plv attached to Observation Home chaired the programme and Ao Pastor invoked the gathering.
M Chingmei, Panel Lawyer spoke on cyber crime and provision under India Penal Code. Ajongba Imchen CJM & secretary LDLSA briefed the procedure of FIR and also emphasized on certain topics like Victim Compensation Act, Motor Vehicles Act, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence and other social welfare schemes.
Summing up the programme, president of Ao Union Longleng expressed gratitude to LDLSA on behalf of the Ao Union Longleng.
Mon: The Mon DLSA on November 18 held a seminar on “Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003” in the DC’s conference hall, Mon town. Ilika Zhimomi, SDO(C), Mon HQ gave the opening remark.
M Moba, Retainer Lawyer spoke on COTPA Act 2003 and emphasized on different sections relating to tobacco control and also on implementing the Act by the work enforcement committee in various public places. He urged all NGOs to cooperate with the enforcement committee.
Kohima: The Kohima DLSA conducted webinar on November 9 with PL and PLVs of different legal services clinics under Kohima district in commemoration of National Legal Services Day. Topics such as legal aid/ Pocso Act/fundamental duties and other social welfare schemes were highlighted by Sunjib Rana, retainer lawyer and Apila Sangtam, panel lawyer KDLSA.
PLVs also shared their own experiences and put up their doubts for better services in their own respective legal clinics. PLVs also requested to conduct more seminar, which will be beneficial for students and public in general. Altogether 17 PL and PLVs joined the webinar.
