DLSAs celebrate International Women’s Day


Dimapur, March 8: District Legal Services Authority across the state celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8.
Kohima: Kohima District Legal Services Authority celebrated International Women’s Day at Zhadima Community Hall on March 8.
Speaking as resource person on the topic violence against women, Zasitsolie Bei-o, Panel Lawyer NSLSA said that even if rights are guaranteed for women, most women in Naga society don’t women fight for their rights.
He said that Article 15 and 16 of fundamental rights plays key role for women such as, equal pay for equal work must be practice, even in Panchayats and Municipal reservations.
Speaking on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Keduvi Zhotso, Panel Lawyer KDLSA said that special law has been set up for children below 18 yrs of age to protect children from offences like sexual abuse, sexual harassment, pornography. He said that act also provide child friendly system, interim compensation for immediate needs for relief and final compensation may received by a child victim.
Zhotso said that under the act, various punishments like failure to report an offence attracts 6 months penalty. He informed that aggregated sexual assault attract for 10 years to life imprisonment and false complain against a child attracts 1 year penalty. Khriezelhou Vitso, Panel Lawyer KDLSA delivred welcome address and chaired the programme.
LONGLENG: Longleng District Legal Services Authority celebrated international women’s day at Good Shepherd School.
The programme started with the boys tying ribbon to the girls’ wrist to signify the occasion. P. Monyei Phom, Advocate spoke on the topic gender equality and women empowerment, while the Administrator of good shepherd school highlighted the significance of Women’s Day
PEREN: Peren District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Peren Town Women welfare organization celebrated International Women’s day at PTWWO Hall, Peren town.
