DLSAs advocates on legal rights & entitlement against child labour

Dimapur, June 12: District Legal Services Authority (DLSAs) in the state today advocated against child labour through programmes on Legal Awareness and activities with Legal Literacy Club (LLCs) on the theme “Children should not work in field, but on their dreams.”
Kohima:
In Kohima, the DLSA incentivized LLC members of Composite Government High School, Nerhema (model) and Chandmari Government High school on Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation), Act 1986, POCSO Act, Right to Legal Services. A documentary on POCSO Act was also displayed to the students. Altogether, 163 students including teaching staffs attended the programme.
Phek:
Phek DLSA in collaboration with District level centre for women- Mahila Shakti Kendra Phek Town Council Hall observed the event with LLC members and frontal NGOs.
Mezivolu T Therieh, Chairperson, Phek DLSA in her keynote address stressed on children being employed as domestic helper in Nagaland and stated that the child labour (prohibition and regulation) act 2016 prohibits employment of children below 15 years as domestic helpers. She stated that such offence are cognizable and imprisonment for 6 months up-to two years and with fine.
Meshusayi, CDPO, Social Welfare Department, Phek spoke on social welfare scheme for children below the age of 14 years and stated the Disability pension scheme for children below 14 years can be availed at their office. He pointed out that at present there are only 31 beneficiaries availing the scheme under Phek district and encouraged the gathering to create awareness regarding the scheme.
Vilenou Kapu, women welfare officer, district level centre for women- mahila shakti Kendra, Phek, spoke on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and underscored the importance of education and participation of the girl child. She also addressed different women centric issues and mentioned different govt scheme available. Nusakho Cheiro, Associate Pastor, Phek town Baptist Church, encouraged the organisers to use church as a platform to create more awareness in the days to come.
Around 115 beneficiaries attended the program.
Mon:
DLSA Mon organized an awareness programme at Green Valley School Mon where theme speaker Seyielienuo Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mon opined that letting children to work in hazardous spaces should be discopuraged and eradicated top enable children especially below 14 years to learn in condusive environment with rights being entitled to them. The programme was chaired by Moba Panel Lawyer.
Short speech was delivered by Chetri Head Master Green Valley. Together 180 students participated.
Zunheboto:
ZDLSA along with Sakhi-One Stop Centre Zunheboto observed the event with the students & teachers of Shovishe Memorial High School, Zunheboto at EBRC Hall Project Colony. Keynote address was delivered by Wokono Yhoshü Secretary & JMFC Zunheboto and short speech was delivered by Kughavi Yepthomi, Headmaster, SMGHSZ. Alovini Yeptho, Centre Administrator of Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Zunheboto highlighted the functioning of the centre and services provided in different levels to the target group of people accessing to one stop at the District level. Nagaholi K Awomi Panel Lawyer, ZDLSA explained the provisions of the Prohibition of Child Labour Act, 1986 for the safeguard of the affected Children and their rights, enumerating the safety of the children engaged in different levels of work. Tovi Z Yeptho, PA spoke on laws relating to children.
Peren:
Peren DLSA observe campaigned at Lamhai/Dungki village. Keynote address was given Somet C Chang, Secy, Peren DLSA and also highlighted the duties and functions of the DLSA. Asuni panel lawyer spoke on RTE, Italang Panel Lawyer spokes on the prohibition of child labour, Indeu Panel lawyer spoke on RTI. An interaction was followed thereafter.
Tuensang:
TDLSA observed international day against child labour at Govt. High school Chaba Tuensang. The main object behind choosing this school was because most of the students were either domestic helper or staying at relative’s place and as such it was necessary to sensitized and spread awareness about the laws available to safeguard and protect the rights of children. Topics covered were prohibition of child labour, POCSO, child marriage restraint act, anti -ragging, immoral trafficking act, right to education. Altogether 84 students attended the seminar.
Wokha:
Wokha observed in collaboration with Police Baptist Church Wokha conducted the programme. Zupenthung Ngullie, Pastor Police Baptist Church Wokha chaired the programme. LLC Government Higher Secondary School Wokha presented NSLSA theme Song. Adv Shanchobeni P Lotha spoke on Child Labour Prohibition & Regulation) Amendment Act 2016 , NSLSA (Child friendly Legal Services to Children and their protection Scheme 2015.
