Divided Naga Hoho in crisis

Divided Naga Hoho in crisis

Dimapur, June 5: Even as the cry for unity among all Nagas gets louder from all quarters, widespread division within the Naga Hoho (NH) is reportedly threatening the existence of the hoho itself.
The crisis within the Naga Hoho, among others, appears to be over the legitimacy of the hoho president and vice president continuance in office after their respective tribal bodies dissociated from the hoho.
The crisis came into public domain following media reports of the summoning of a NH federal assembly on May 31 last, and resolutions adopted by four federating units/tribes in the assembly, which was later converted to a consultation meeting in view of the absence of some officials and federating units.
In a clarification to the May 31 summoning of NH federal assembly and the subsequent resolution adopted, Naga Hoho vice president (political), Samson Remei on behalf of the Naga Hoho Executive Council stated that summoning of emergency federal assembly by Deputy Speaker by-passing the executive council “through social media” was totally against the basic tenets of Yezabo. He said ultimately the assembly secretary had to inform all the federating units/tribes on May 23 to abstain from attending the assembly.
On the legitimacy of the continuance of the president and vice president of the hoho as raised by some federating units, the clarification said, “Can the Naga Hoho be strengthened if we are to chase away even the officials whose tribes are dissociated form the Naga Hoho temporarily? We do not believe in rigidity and division but believe in conflict transformation.” (Full Text)
