Dimapur, June 20: The Directorate of Health & Family Welfare organized Kayakalp award ceremony under the theme ‘A Clean Hospital Initiative’ on Wednesday in the conference hall, DHFW.
Kayakalp, which was launched by Union Health Minister on 15th May 2015 is an initiative to promote cleanliness, hygiene & infection control practices in public health facilities. Kayakalp Award Scheme for Hospitals are appraised on the assessment on 6 areas – Hospital Keep up, Sanitation & Hygiene, Water Management, Infection Control, Support Services, Hygiene promotions on exemplary performances meeting standards of protocols.
Minister for Health & Family Welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom, in his speech, said effort and hard work is the only key for cleanliness. He said cleanliness effort will bring different changes in our state and it all depends on the department as well as the citizen to make a difference. He urged the participants that if effort and hardwork are put together then anyone can get the kayakalp award. He also encouraged the doctors and staff to impart awareness about cleanliness and appealed to them to have a mass social work at least once a week. He expressed hope that Nagaland will be considered one of the cleanest state in the country.
“Cleanliness is the key to preventing disease,” said Commissioner & Secretary for H&FW, I. Himato Zhumomi, IFS. He stated that hospital is one such place where sick people visit and the first thing that comes to one’s mind is whether the hospital is clean. He also said that people can be infected by having a dirty environment.
He dwelt on the cleanliness in public sphere, as public sphere is an extension of private sphere and further appealed to each and every single citizen of Nagaland to practice cleanliness in private life then automatically public places will be clean.
He pointed out that if one don’t translate into actual cleanliness in private sphere, no amount of cleaning, social work and community work is going to keep hospital or any other public place clean.
The Kayakalp scheme was rolled out in all 11districts under three categories- District Hospital (DH), Community Health Centre (CHC), Primary Health Centre (PHC). The winner for District Hospital category was bagged by DH Phek, 2nd Prize was won by DH Wokha. Commendation prize was bagged by DH Mokokchung & DH Mon. Under Community Health Centre category, 1st & 2nd prizes winner went to CHC Viswema, Kohima and CHC Noklak, Tuensang respectively. Under Primary Health Centre category six districts were awarded cash and certificates- Khonoma PHC Kohima; Kuhuboto PHC, Dimapur; Chukitong PHC, Wokha; Chizami PHC, Phek; Angangba PHC, Tuensang; Mokokchung NPHC; Commendation Prize were given to Longpang PHC, Tuensang; Nyiro PHC, Wokha; Wuzhuro PHC, Wokha; Athibung PHC, Peren; Seikhazou UPHC, Kohima.
The programme was chaired by Principal Director, DHFW, Dr. Meguosielie Kire.
