Dist level training conducted for COVID-19 vaccine roll-out

Dimapur, January 13: District level training for COVID-19 vaccine roll-out in Dimapur District was held on January 12 for private hospitals and on January 13 for CDPOs, supervisors, Home Guards and AWWs at CMO’s conference hall and Chapel Hall, DHD.

Dr Sheila Longkumer, Consultant- WHO, presented the COVID-19 vaccination objectives and the implementation process. She highlighted the criteria for selecting a session site, and roles and responsibilities of the vaccination team, which includes verifying the identities of beneficiaries, data entry, observation, management of the beneficiaries, etc. She informed the trainees on the bio-medical waste management followed by the Department in all the health units as well as in any vaccination sites, which will also be followed in all COVID-19 vaccination sites. She further said only AD Syringe (Auto Disabled), a one-time use only syringe, will be used for COVID-19 vaccination as used in any other routine immunization.
Rajesh K. Monsang, Project Officer, UNDP, oriented the trainees on cold-chain management and CoWIN application. He highlighted the logistics involved to ensure vaccine to be used during the vaccination drive is safe and potent. He stated that COVID-19 vaccine will be handled by the already existing cold chain points in the district. There are 10 cold chain points in the district, which are monitored in real time to ensure the safety and potency of vaccines are maintained. Only those beneficiaries registered in CoWin portal will be eligible for vaccination.
Dr Rebecca, DPO UIP/RCH highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the vaccination team. She emphasized on the management and mobilization of the beneficiaries at the vaccination sites.
Dr Antoly Suu, Dy.CMO while welcoming the trainees expressed gratitude towards the allied departments for constantly lending their supports and co-operation in all health activities in the district. She urged them to continue their support during the upcoming vaccination drive.
All health workers under Chief Medical Officer Dimapur have been trained and are ready to carry out the vaccination drive.
