Diphu XI lifts 10th Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament

Kohima, November 23: Runners-up of the last two editions, Diphu XI today emerged champions of 10th edition of the Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament played at Jakhama Local Ground, Jakhama in Kohima district.
The tourney, which is recognized by Kohima District Cricket Association, is an annual event organized by the youth department of Nepali Baptist Church on the theme “Peace and Unity through Cricket” under its Sports Ministry.
Playing a thrilling final match, Diphu XI defeated United CC Jakhama by 4 wickets.
United CC Jakhama won the toss and took the bat scoring 125 losing 3 wickets in 20 overs with Washim contributing highest 53 runs.
Diphu bowlers Raju Ghosh, Vicky, Bittu Das took a wicket each.
In reply, Diphu XI achieved the target in last ball of the inning losing 6 wicket. In the last ball while Diphu XI needed 2 runs to win, Bittu Das struck a boundary to lift the trophy. Sarklinso Terang scored highest 31 for the team.
United CC bowlers Shaidul Alam took 3 wickets supported by Subankar Dey 2 wickets.
Bittu was declared man of the final match.
Winning the tourney, Diphu XI received casa Rs 80,000 with trophy and citation while runners-up got Rs 40,000 with trophy and citation. Semi-finalists – Esa Warriors and Silver Backs got Rs 5000 each.
The individual awardees are:
Best Batman – Rupan Das of Silver Backs for scoring 124 runs in 3 matches.
Best Bowler- Ram Thakur of Silver Backs for taking 9 wickets in 3 matches.
Best Wicketkeeper – Anil Sharma of Diphu XI
Player of the Tournament – Sourav Dey of United CC for scoring 71 runs and taking 6 wickets in 3 matches.
Gracing the valedictory function as chief guest, Nagaland Cricket Association vice president K Herato Sukhalu encouraged all the players to work hard and excel in cricket.
He also informed that NCA is going to organize all age level tournament in every district to promote cricket.
He also requested the Silver Cup organizers to promote local talents and create platform for the budding cricketers of the state.
Meanwhile, the organizers conveyed gratitude to all well-wishers for the successful conduct of the tournament, Jakhama Village Council for permitting to organize in their ground and media fraternity for media coverage. (Page News Service)
