Dimapur, March 14: The annual Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) meeting of the Diocese of Kohima was held at Mt. Tabor on March 14 with the theme ‘Year of Evangelization’. DPC is the forum that brings together all sections of the people of God: the Bishop, Priests, Religious and Laity. 123 representatives of from all the eleven districts of Nagaland took part in the meeting.
The DPC first input session was addressed by Fr. Dr. George Angami, Vice Principal St. Joseph (Autonomous) College Jakhama on the topic “The great commission for evangelization: A Biblical perspective”. Fr. George highlighted on the mission command and the call to be missionaries as a true Christian. He stressed on the importance of teaching and education to new views of duty and new application of old truths.
Fr. David Tithong, the Dean of Studies of St. Xavier Seminary presented a paper on the topic “Church perspective on Evangelization” during the second session. Quoting Ad Gentes he stressed that “the pilgrim church is missionary by it nature”. He called on the local church to be evangelizers. In the afternoon, in the third session the assembly divided in five groups to discuss on two important questions: Suggest 3 ways in which our schools can be more effectively used for evangelization and how can we equip our families to be more effective agents of evangelization?
Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima gave the concluding remarks.
