Dimapur murder accused nabbed within 6 hours of victim’s identification: CP

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 23: In the aftermath of the murder of the minor girl (17), whose body was recovered on Thursday morning in the playground premises of a school at Kacharigaon, Dimapur, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo, IPS, on Friday revealed that 19 year-old Yilobemo Mozhui, son of Thechamo of Yanmhon village, Bhandari, has admitted to the commission of the crime in the evening of October 21.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Mozhui who is a Theology student, had befriended the victim through Facebook and had contacted her through phone for the purpose of an evening walk before committing the crime.
Briefing the media fraternity on the incident that shocked the state and resulted in a massive outpour of outrage on social media platforms, here in the office of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Tetseo said that the accused was arrested within 6 hours since the identification of the victim from his residence at Senjum Village and the motive of the crime is yet to be established as investigation is still in a preliminary stage.
Mozhui was the student of St. Claire Higher Secondary School, Kacharigaon.
The body of the minor was found in semi-nude state with injuries and later in the day photos of deceased were observed circulating on social media platforms.
Tetseo said that such acts, which reveal the identity of the victims, are not only unethical but also illegal and cautioned people to refrain from circulating such posts.
He mentioned that post the news of the murder, hate-filled and negative comments floated in the social media platforms demanding the identity of the accused and targeting communities for withholding the name of the accused when the police had to do its investigation as well as keep the accused safe.
He appealed to the people to not spread negativity and create wrong impressions about communities.
The body of the victim has been handed over to the family after post mortem, the result of which is awaited.
The Commissioner also informed during the interaction that on the same day (October 22), a case of an alleged suicide of a 14 year-old girl came in light from Sukhovi Village, but the police got suspicious during the investigation as besides other factors, the deceased bore no signs of a suicide by hanging as informed by her parents.
Consequently, the parents of the minor have been arrested on the charges of murder. The father has been identified as Mohammed Islam of Morigaon, Assam.
