Dimapur, November 19: Finally some good news on the power front. Dimapur is likely to get uninterrupted power supply, without any power fluctuations, from mid-2020.
State power department officials said if everything goes as per schedule, the ongoing Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) works will be completed soon and Dimapur will get uninterrupted power supply.
Presently many areas in Dimapur, particularly Notun Basti, Khermahal, City Tower area, etc are left with no power supply from 11 p.m. till 4-5 a.m. in the morning and this total black-out have been persisting since a week back.
Sub Divisional Officer (Electrical Sub Division Dimapur 1), En. N Khate told Nagaland Page that the recent power shut down from around midnight till morning (around 5 am) in many locations in Dimapur is due to the ongoing IPDS work, which is being geared up for completion. This is the reason why in many of the locations in Dimapur, the power department shuts off electricity connection, he clarified.
“We cannot afford to shut down power during the day time so we are shutting it off from midnight till morning (4-5 am). Within these stretch of time, the power supply is cut off as we are in the process of installing IPDS in the entire district,” Khate said.
On not giving prior information about the midnight power shutdown to the consumers, the engineer said the department cannot give the exact time schedule for the shutdown due to the nature of the work being undertaken. “We cannot be absolute on the timing because sometimes in some part of the area it may not be covered as per our given timing due to many factors,” he said.
“Even if we schedule for a week, let’s say for four days, but even after four days, if it is not completed, then it may be continued for some more days and for which we are unable to make any schedule timing. All the IPDS installations are being done near exiting lines and power shut down is necessary,” he added.
On when the IPDS installation will be completed, Khate said it cannot be ascertained at present because it may take two or four days or even more but the department is trying to compete it at the earliest for the convenience of the people and the whole power department team are working round the clock to get it completed. He expressed optimism that the overall power scenario in Dimapur and the State as a whole will largely improve following completion of IPDS installation. (Page News Service)
