Dimapur go dark after light rains

Dimapur, May 9: In what could be an indication of how prepared the State in general or Dimapur District in particular is to face any disaster, it took just some two hours of light thunder shower Wednesday morning to totally cut off power supply in Dimapur District for more than 12 hours.
Reportedly a major problem at the Nagarjan sub-station was the reason for the major power outage for more than 12 hours that was partially restored at around 8 pm Wednesday night. However, till midnight power supply was erratic with some 10 minutes of power supply to every hour.
The State Power Department as usual could not elaborate the nature of the problem that caused the power outage.
While efforts to contact top officials of the Power Department went in vain, a staff at the Burma Camp Power House informed that restoration works were going on at around 4:30 pm Wednesday afternoon. The staff provided a contact number to get further details, but that particular number turned out to be out of service.
Such power cuts for long durations have become a regular phenomenon in Dimapur for the past few months causing huge loses to businesses and small scale industries. (Page News Service)
