Dimapur exports pineapples to Kolkata

Dimapur, August 4: Molsang Organic Pineapples Producer Company Limited, Molvom, in partnership with Agriculture and Horticulture Department, Government of Nagaland, sent 600 kg of pineapple (500 nos of pineapples in 50 cartons) as air cargo from Dimapur to Big Basket Kolkata on August 4.


According to a DIPR bulletin, Nagaland pineapples are considered as one of the sweetest and juiciest pineapples in the world and have been certified as 100% organic by OneCert International.
It stated that at present, the area under organic certified pineapple cultivation in the state is 850 hectares under Mission Organic Value Chain Development, sponsored by Government of India.
The project is being implemented in three villages, namely Molvom, Bungsang and Mhainamtsi, consisting of 500 farmers. Production of certified organic pineapple in Nagaland is 10,000 to 12,000 metric tonnes, with turnover of Rs 15 crore per year; and the Government of Nagaland, Horticulture Department under MOVCD NER vision 2030 is contemplating to create an organic pineapple corridor along the Foothill Road covering an area of 10,000 hectares.
