Dimapur DVFA lifts 9th Nagaland Veteran Football championship

Kohima, May 10: Dimapur District Veteran Football Association today lifted the coveted 9th Nagaland Veteran Inter-District Football championship organized by Nagaland Veteran Football Association and hosted by Kohima District Veteran Football Association at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima.
Playing an exciting final match, Dimapur DVFA comfortably defeated Kohima DVFA by two goals to nil.
Dimapur dominated the game from the blow of the whistle and made some quick penetrations into the rival D’box and Supong Longchar missed at least three scoring opportunities within the first 15 minutes with his shot barely missing the target or either being blocked by rival custodian Zuthongo.
Though the first half ended in a goalless draw, it was the visitors striking the winning two goals through its skipper Y Yanbemo Lotha in the 52nd minute and injury added time of the 60 minutes (30+30) match.
Yanbemo also won the individual award of highest scorer of the tournament with five goals.
Winning the championship, Dimapur DVFA went home with Rs 30,000 cash, running trophy and citations while runners-up Kohima DVFA bagged Rs 20,000 with trophy and citation.
Two semi-finalist, Mokokchung DVFA and Phek DVFA received Rs 10,000 each.
Gracing the valedictory function as the guest of honour, Secretary for Yoyth Resources & Sports, Lhouchalie Viyie handed over the awards to the winners.
Earlier in his address, Viyie lauded the efforts of NVFA in organizing the tournament with a motive to bring about health consciousness among the veteran players.
He also appealed the veteran footballers to put up suggestion for the Dr T Ao football policy, which the government is contemplating to bring about soon.
Viyie also called upon them to reach out to villages across the State in order to tap the hidden talent.
DGP Band entertained the spectators with special music while NVFA Secretary, Tia N Panger delivered the vote of thanks. (Page News Service)
