Dimapur District Children’s Parliament 1st General Session an election held


Dimapur, November 14: The Dimapur District Children’s Parliament 1st General Election and Session was organised by the Children’s Parliament Initiative under the Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) on November 12.
In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Charles, Director, DAN said, “In Children’s Parliament you gather together to voice your rights and know your responsibility. The mechanism helps children to work for their own welfare and the welfare of the community as a whole. In democracy the voice of the majority is considered right. In Children’s Parliament themajority must speak the right thing”.
Jiji Joseph, Senior Program Manager stated that the Children’s Parliament enables the children to equip themselves, be capacitated on the system of democracy; awareness on child rights; be aware about the basic functions and system of governance and administration in our country, by engaging in interaction with officials and village leaders.
He also said that Children’s Parliament also gives the children the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, self-confidence and enhance their knowledge.
Vikhuli Achumi, Program Manager also highlighted on the roles and responsibilities on being a member of the District Children’s Parliament. She said that the children need to explore their areas and be aware about the existing conditions of their society and in particular the conditions of the children.
The program was chaired by Christina, teacher mentor of Carmel Hr. Sec. School, Chekiye. Invocation was said by Meribeni Patton, mentor of DiphuparLotha Community. The gathering was welcomed by Aquinas Pammei, Dimapur District Coordinator. Vote of thanks was proposed by Kumlanthung Lotha, newly elected Prime Minister of the Dimapur District Children’s Parliament. Forty-seven participants attended the program. (Page News Service)
