Nagaland News

Rescues 3-yr-old abducted child, nabs 5

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 13: In a dramatic turn of events that DCP Dimapur (Crime) Bharat Laxman Markad referred to as “a race against time”, the Dimapur police, led by DCP (Zone I) Dr Naieem Mustafa and ACP ‘A’ Division Seviesezo Peseyie, on Sunday morning, (September 12), around 2:30 a.m., rescued a 3-year-old child, who was kidnapped on the evening of September 10, from the clutches of kidnappers.

Unfolding the details of the case to media persons on Monday here at the office chamber of DCP (Zone-I), Mustafa revealed that around 7 p.m. on Friday the child was picked by someone, who he was playing with near his home and at around 8 p.m., when everyone was searching for the child, a ransom call for Rs 15 lakh was received by his parents.
Subsequently, the Dimapur Police received verbal information about it at around 10 p.m. from one Ashok Joshi of Jorapukhuri, Purana Bazar, Dimapur, and swung into action. Initially, after checking the CCTV footages of the area, the police had a suspicion that it was being carried out by someone known to the child as the footages showed that child had been picked by someone who appeared to be familiar to the child. However, since it was night time, the person could not be identified instantly.

On tracking the phone, the police found that both the SIM card (acquired through black market) and the phone were recently bought. Meanwhile, sources were engaged in and around the place of kidnapping besides some strategic locations to collect relevant facts and leads while concealing the identity of the police officers to ensure safety of the child. Further, the police encouraged the parents to negotiate with the kidnappers to buy time which resulted in the kidnappers agreeing to accept Rs 10 lakhs to be paid on Sunday at 10 a.m. However, the police caught the kidnappers before 10 a.m.
Though the police didn’t give away minute details about how the case was handled, media persons were informed that the investigation was started basing on the activation of the SIM.
The child was rescued from a small thatch house in an isolated location at Monsing Teron Village, approximately 5 km from the Khatkhati Highway, Assam. When the child was rescued, a kidnapper was there along with him in the house. Later, 4 more people were arrested in this connection.

Police revealed that the mastermind of the whole plan, which was being hatched since the last 7 to 10 days, might have been hurriedly executed as the victim and his family were scheduled to go on a vacation on September 14, was one Jiborai Mech (26 years), a shop owner at Purana Bazaar, who was also residing in the same building as the victim’s family and throughout the time appeared to be consoling the family pretending to be a well wisher while observing their moves. He apparently also asked the family to not approach the police as it might threaten the life of the child.
The other 4 arrested accused are Dilwar Hussain (21 years), Rahul Narzary (24 years), Vikram Singh (21 years), and Md. Yashin Ali (32 years). Of the total 5 arrested, 2 are from Dimapur and 3 from Khatkhati, Assam. In this regard, a case has been registered at East Police Station under Section 363 IPC.
According to Dimapur Police, this was a different case as a child was involved and everything needed to be done very carefully and the team takes pride in how the case was solved.

According to Markad, the case was solved using “sophisticated technology” and shows that Dimapur Police can deliver, is second to none and people should reach out to the police.
