Dimapur Bongs welcome Bengali New Year


Dimapur, April 22: With much pomp and gaiety, Dimapur Bongs today welcomed the Bengali New Year 1425 by organizing a formal programme called ‘Aahobbane 1425’ here at Ramakrishna Society, Dimapur in the midst of many influential Bengalis settled here in Dimapur and Nagaland besides others.
H. Tovihoto Ayemi, advisor to power and chairman of DPDB who was supposed to be the chief guest for the programme on the occasion, didn’t turn up and instead sent his regrets for his unavailability.
Kuhoi Zhimo, ex-DMC member, who filled the space of the chief guest said in his brief remark that Tovihoto wished the Bengali community a very happy Bengali New Year and he would be with the community in its future activities.
ICAR director Dr. Abhijit Mitra who was present as a special guest asked the young Bengalis to hold onto their cultures by communicating in Bengali, reading Bengali literature and other ways possible. It is only when they know their own culture that they will be able to understand the cultures of others, he said.
He said that Bengalis represent a bead in the garland of the nation India and a strong bead will make one an Indian in the truest sense.
During the celebration, many cultural performances were also held and a special felicitation program was also organized for the unsung heroes and heroines.
