Dimapur Bongs signs MoU with DMC to maintain Kalibari Road stretch

Dimapur, September 27: A lot of emphasis is being laid on making Dimapur a better and clean town and now the Dimapur Municipal Council sees community participation the best way to make it a reality.
With Team Dimapur, Better Dimapur & Clean Dimapur teams already on the job of keeping the city clean through different initiatives, various non-Governmental organizations have also come forward to adopt certain areas of the town to maintain it.
On Thursday, Dimapur Bongs signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dimapur Municipal Council to maintain the Kalibari Road for a period of one year. While the road is under dilapidated condition at present, the DMC has already started repair of the said road after which the whole stretch would be looked after by Dimapur Bong, which would initiate measures to beautify the area.
DMC Administrator, Moa Sangtam said that the DMC wants the non-Naga communities to participate in betterment of Dimapur town. He said Dimapur Bongs is the first non-Naga group to join the initiative. He disclosed that Dimapur Bongs have adopted Kalibari road.
The other NGOs who have given their confirmation and decided to adopt roads are Muslim Council Dimapur, which is going to adopt the Anwar Hussain Road passing through their burial ground, Naga Women Hoho has adopted City Tower to Holy Cross point.
The DMC Administrator said that adoption of particular area by an NGO is initially for one year and seeing their performance the period would be extended.
He said he wanted to set an example of community participation to the other districts and neighbouring states.
He further disclosed that an MoU with Naga Women Hoho Dimapur would be signed on October 2.
Dimapur Bongs said that they would do plantation on the Kalibari Road stretch or paint the areas which looks odd, besides pledging to keep the road dust free. (Page News Service)
