Nagaland News

Dimapur, April 3: The Union Ministry of Defence has expanded the coverage of its scheme ‘Financial Assistance to 100% Disabled Children of Ex-Servicemen (ESM)/widows’ and enhanced the amount of monthly subsidy.
A Defence press release on Sunday informed that the scheme, which was earlier limited to Ex-Servicemen in the rank of Havildar (or equivalent of Navy and Air Force) and below, has now been extended up to the rank of Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) ESMs/widows (and their equivalent of Navy and Air Force).
Also, the grant has been increased to Rs 3000 per month, from its previous amount of Rs 1000.
The Ministry has raised the ceiling for eligibility for widows of deceased defence personnel to a maximum of 35 years of age at the time of entry at pre-commissioning training institute(s), except for the flying branch for which Service Headquarters shall specify the age limit as per service requirements.
Widows with children will be accepted.
“The Service Headquarters also make suitable changes in their schemes with an aim to provide best possible support to the families of deceased soldiers/war widows”, it stated.
