Dimapur, October 15: In order to have better and similar administration of different villages in Dimapur, Dimapur District Village Council Chairman Association was formally launched today here at Chumukedima Town Council Hall attended by DC Dimapur Sushil Kumar Patel as one of the guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Patel said that village councils are the local government at grassroots level and therefore the villages should learn from each other and do case studies of villages that are making progress.
Appreciating the community support among Nagas, he said that only if the village councils implement the schemes correctly, there will be development and therefore they must use the funds made available to them judiciously in such a manner that unavailability of funds in future should have not much impact.
In his speech he also asked the people to tolerate the inconvenience they are facing due to construction of roads.
Besides the objective of bringing coordination among different villages, the association will also approach the government to request remunerations for the chairmen who till now get no monetary support for their support and thus there is always a chance of corruption.
“Remuneration will end the scope of corruption,” said S. Toiho Yeptho, Chairman of Chekiye Village as well as one of the advisors of DDVCCA.
Talking to the media, Yeptho said that the association will also facilitate the grassroots level opinion to come out and in the days to come, the association will spearhead the formation of a state level village council association.
