DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 11: To protest the State Government’s failure to control illegal and multiple taxations by various groups as well as Government agencies, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has announced a total shutdown of all shops and business establishments in the State’s commercial hub on September 16.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the traders’ body informed that the shutdown will also cover restriction of goods transport entry into Dimapur ~ to specifically register their objection to various DMC taxes/fees collected on GST items at check gates.
“The call for 1-day total shutdown of shops is as per the latest press release of DCCI which was published in the local media. DCCI, in the media, had highlighted the plight of the business community due to multiple and rampant illegal taxation by various groups as well Government agencies.
“Sadly, the State Government has so far not taken any concrete steps or gave assurance on the issue of illegal and multiple taxations. The 1-day total shutdown is the first phase of the business community to protest the inaction of the State Government and its machineries”, read the press release.
The DCCI stated it will be compelled to resort to “further and extreme courses of action” if the Government of the day fails to address the “genuine plight” of the business community.
In connection to the first phase of protest, it appealed to the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CNCCI), the “apex business body of Nagaland”, and all its district chambers to lend support and solidarity.
Also, it requested the citizens to lend their voice and co-operation “as the issue of illegal and multiple taxations affects each and every citizen of the State”.
