DC Mon inaugurates Handloom Expo

Dimapur, January 11: Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumer Verma, IAS inaugurated the state Handloom Expo (Hathkargha Mela) on the theme, “My Handloom My Pride” at District Hq public ground Mon, supported and sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. These 14 days EXPO will conclude on January 18, 2024
During his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the district has a number of traditional crafts as well as possess a high capacity of artistic work. Mon district is a hub of traditional handloom and famous for its shawls, ladies mekhalas (wrap-around), waist coats, and ties, etc.
He said the handloom sector has huge potential for developing entrepreneurship, employment opportunities and minimum assured income due to its traditionally skilled manpower and huge number of weavers engaged in the sector. He desired that this State Handloom Expo(SHE)could be a vital platform for rejuvenating and promoting Handloom sector.
He also said the district administration, Mon is making the best effort to develop and promote marketing channels in domestic and export markets and bring linkage between the two in a holistic and integrated manner, especially for the talented and uncovered weavers, so that they can increase their living status, sustain their livelihood and experiences to enhance their skills and techniques in sales and marketing.
The main objective of the Expo is to provide a platform to the weavers, entrepreneurs, Cooperative Societies, Corporation/ Federation and SHGs, engaged in Handloom Production and marketing. They will be given the opportunity to sell their products as well as to promote their business establishments. It will be a rich experience for the weavers to enhance their skills and techniques in sales and marketing.
The DC further invited the public/stakeholders to visit the ongoing Expo, which features various handloom products including jewellery, handicraft etc. and being sold at affordable price and very grateful to the Ministry of Textiles for sponsoring this Expo at Mon
