Dimapur, May 21: In view of some village authorities/ward authoriies/individuals/groups issuing “shoot at sight” order for gods, DC Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir said that this is a punishable offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
He stated that legal proceeding would be initiated under Sections 428 and 429 of the IPC and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 against any village authorities/ward authorities/individuals/groups acting in contravention to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Further, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and several Quarantine Centres being set up in different parts of the district, the Deputy Commissioners directed all pet owners to prevent their pets from straying outside respective home premises.
Action would be initiated under relevant section of the Disaster Management Act 2005 against the owner whose pets are found loitering in the town/villages, he stated.
