DAN launches FARM-III


Dimapur, February 13: Development Association of Nagaland (DAN), Dimapur launched the third phase of FARM North East Project which would cover 12 villages in Peren district. The Facilitating Agricultural Regeneration Measures (FARM) is a joint initiative of DAN and Caritas India towards enhancing agricultural production and income of the marginal subsistence farmers through adopting organic and traditional farming while incorporating modern techniques and methodologies.
The launching programme was held on February 12, at Saijang village community hall, Peren in presence of leaders and representatives from the targeted villages.
Delivering the welcome address, Rev. Fr.Charles, Director, DAN, gave a brief introduction to Caritas India and Development Association of Nagaland who are implementing the initiative. He said that the intervention is part of a Northeast level initiative by the Caritas India among the people who are engaged in agriculture and allied activities.
Regina Kithan highlighted the achievements of the concluded phase of the project in which a farmer from the project area was honoured with National Farmers Award at Delhi. She expressed hope that the current project would be able to scale better heights.
Renchano N Lotha, coordinator, FARM-III gave a brief insight into the strategies and activities envisaged by the project.
Prabal Sen, State Officer, Caritas India urged the farmers to wholeheartedly take up farming as an economic activity that would sustain them as well as feed thousands of people.
Kygum of Jalukie B, narrated her journey and achievements with the FARM project in the previous years.
The event was attended by community leaders and farmers from 12 targeted villages in Jalukie and Athibung Block in Peren district. (Page News Service)
