DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 6: The Chakhesang Youth Front has welcomed and endorsed the recent Gauhati High Court Stay Order not to ban dog meat in the state.
The CYF said the decision is a great relief against the Nagaland Chief Secretary’s impugned Notification dated 04-07-2020 to “ban the commercial import and trade of dog meat and dining in restaurant”, which is viewed to be illegal and unconstitutional and as amounting to deprivation of liberty.
The Chakhesang Youth Front also appreciated the High Court for understanding the sentiments of Chakhesang Nagas in particular and Nagaland in general.
In a press release, CYF president, Lhuvesayi Lohe and joint secretary, Veshekhoyi Chizo said that the impugned administrative law as noticed was a rude shock to the Naga people, especially the Chakhesang Naga community.
Stating that the traditional practice and food habits are part of cultural identity, the CYF urged the Government not to curtail our personal liberty which is also part of our fundamental identity to our existence.
Supporting the Court order, the CYF said that such illegal and unconstitutional decision of the State Government should be revoked immediately and instead liberty be given to the stakeholders whether to rear, barter, trade, cater or dine.
The Chakhesang Youth Front totally opposed banning of dog meat under Phek district.
