Dimapur, May 20: Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has informed that by May 21 Super Cyclonic Storm ‘AMPHAN’ is expected to reach lower Assam adjoining Meghalaya and west Arunachal.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department in coordination with the IMD, Regional Office Guwahati issued weather updates with regard to Cyclone ‘AMPHAN’ for the coming days.
According to the updates, heavy rains are also expected over Sikkim, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, lower Assam Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Nagaland will not have any adverse affect due to the cyclone. However normal rain and thundershowers will continue for few days particularly evening/night. Rain/Thundershowers activity would be intense from May 25 onwards and last 5 days i.e. May 27 to 31 which may become heavier.
Thunder squalls with severe lightening are also expected during this period.
In view of the uncertainty associated with forecasted tracks of any cyclonic system and the likelihood of heavy rainfall in the region, all the DDMAs and the other line departments who are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities have been asked to be prepared.
NSDMA, Home Department, has also advised the public to undertake precautionary measures in anticipation of likely heavy rainfall and strong winds. (Page News Service)
