Kohima, June 26: Cyber crime accused, Pankaj Gupta on Friday appeared before the Court here to seek bail.
Pankaj was arrested after he accused the Nagaland Government of trying to spread COVID-19 in the State to get more funds from the Central Government.
According to sources, Pankaj was produced before the Court today and the bail petition was filed by his lawyer.
It is not known whether the bail was granted but according to one source he was likely to get bail if petition is filed, due to the current pandemic situation – an accused can apply for bail after one month in custody.
A source added that the only case against him was that State Government was trying to spread COVID-19 to seek more funds from the Union Government, which was presumed by the accused.
On June 9, Nagaland Police in coordination with the Haryana Police arrested Pankaj, the main accused in a Cyber crime case from Kurukshetra in Haryana. He had been on the run for the last several days and was finally arrested from Haryana. The arrest was based on a non-bailable warrant of arrest issued by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kohima.
Earlier Pankaj was in police custody for 14 days and later forwarded to judicial custody. (Page News Service)
