Dimapur, January 7: Consumer Rights Organization, Nagaland on Thursday observed its third foundation day in the presence of Advisor of Food and Civil Supplies Pukhayi Assumi as the special guest here at Western Chakhesang Hoho Building, Chakhesang Colony, Dimapur.
Speaking on the occasion, Assumi who also was the special guest during the launching of the organization, said that there are but only three organizations in the state that are for the protection of the consumers and they should be very sincere in their duties, adding further that the organizations should bring out their achievements to facilitate government cooperation and receive the facilities available.
Assumi said that in the earlier times, Nagas were self-sufficient and there were no imports but now things are different and the import of everything even rice in a growing society is leading to many diseases and destruction of economy and cancer has become a “Naga disease”.
In his speech, he appealed to the Nagas to make use of the available resources and asked the consumer rights organizations in the state to never forget their objective of protecting the consumers.
Earlier, delivering the keynote address, CRO Nagaland State President, James Jungio mentioned that the organization comprises of a state team and 12 subordinate bodies which look after the consumer welfare in their own district.
The state team monitors and assists the unit teams in all round activities in the districts and the team itself is monitored and assisted by the national team, he explained.
He said that in the last two years CRO Nagaland has been monitoring the market prices of all commodities in collaboration with the district administration and law enforcing agencies even during the nationwide lockdown and many complaints on price rise in the market have been verified and issues were settled.
He revealed that the main objective and plan of the organization for 2021-22 is to carry out consumer rights and protection awareness campaign in all the 12 districts and subdivisions in collaboration with the state government and Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection.
