Dimapur, August 3: A Covid positive pregnant lady, who was admitted at Eden Medical Centre on August 2, gave birth to a healthy baby. The baby was tested for Covid-19 by TruNat immediately after birth, which turned out to be negative.
According to hospital sources, the lady was in active labour when she was admitted. Although she had no signs and symptoms of Covid-19, sample was taken for TrueNat testing as per hospital protocol for all in-patients. The patient had to be shifted to Labour Room as she was in advanced labour with all staff wearing adequate PPE.
While this was being done, TrueNat result came positive for Covid infection. The patient underwent cesarean section due to obstetric indications in a makeshift Operation Theatre in the Labour Room itself taking all precautionary measures.
The baby is presently being kept isolated from the mother, and would be retested as per the guidelines issued by Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI).
The mother’s sample for confirmatory RT-PCR has been taken, the result of which is awaited, the sources stated. (Page News Service)
