DIMAPUR, JUNE 20: Outraged by his claim that some cadres of Naga factions in Zunheboto District had demanded share of COVID-19 funds, the Working Committee (WC) of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) has demanded Nagaland Advisor for School Education, KT Sukhalu to reveal the names of national workers and groups along with the amount of COVID money taken.
Sukhalu had earlier told a TV new channel that cadres of 7/8 factions in Zunheboto are demanding percentages from funds that is received for COVID Hospital and COVID-related issues.
In a statement issued through its media cell, the WC NNPGs said once Sukhalu reveals the names of cadres and their groups it will take necessary steps against erring cadres through respective governments and work towards recovery of the amount, as it “belongs to our people”.
The WC also termed Sukhalu’s statement as “a bitter taste in the mouth of all Sumi Naga National workers in particular and Sumi public in general, who takes pride in the fact that Zunheboto is an impregnable fortress in the Naga national movement. The image of Sumi National workers has taken a battering after KT Sukhalu’s allegation went viral.”
Stating that COVID fund is specifically sanctioned by Government of India to mitigate the sufferings and misery of the common man while also providing medical care and assistance to the affected, the WC asserted that this fund is neither for CM, Deputy CM, Medical Minister, political parties or bureaucrats, nor to be diverted and pumped into other Ministries and projects.
Pointing out that various political parties, civil societies and Naga populace are questioning Nagaland Government on the utilization of COVID funds, the NNPGs said the people’s verdict on the COVID fund is that there is no transparency whatsoever in utilization.
“Is Mr. KT Sukhalu conveniently hiding the siphoning off of COVID funds by Government and shifting the blame to national workers? Habitually he hides behind the Naga political issue to cover his abject incompetence, non performance, insatiable greed and corruption. God forbid! Let Mr. KT Sukhalu produce full detail of the alleged payment of COVID fund to national workers and should he fail to name the persons and amount, Naga National workers in particular and Sumi people in general would consider it a dangerous ploy to whip up anger of Sümi people against national workers,” it said.
