Dimapur, June 13: The COVID-19 pandemic has reached Mon District with six persons testing positive at an institutional quarantine centre in Mon town.
DC Mon, Thavaseelan K IAS informed that out of 7 samples sent for testing at RMRC Dibrugrah (ICMR) on June 10, six tested COVID-19 positive. All the cases are asymptomatic and males between the age of 18 and 32.
Thavaseelan said the 7 samples tested positive in the TrueNat test and hence sent to ICMR for confirmation as per existing protocol.
The DC revealed that the 7 persons were all Chennai returnees and were housed in an institutional quarantine centre in Mon. The group reached Dimapur on May 22 and were tested negative in the initial test at Dimapur.
The group reached Mon on June 2 after spending 10 days in an institutional quarantine centre in Dimapur and was housed in an IQC in Mon. After 7 days at Mon, their samples were taken again and tested using TrueNat on June 10, and all 7 were found positive and so the sample was sent to ICMR for confirmation on June 11.
“Six out of 7 samples have tested positive in the RT-PCR test, the results of which were received on 12th June 2020,” the DC informed.
In view of the detection of a number of active cases, the DC informed that the Wangkhao Government College campus and the adjoining Industrial Training Institute (ITI) campus, where the quarantine centres are located, have been declared as containment zone.
The DC also informed that COVID Care Centre has been activated in the district for the treatment of asymptomatic positive patients.
Requesting the citizens of Mon district not to panic, the DC assured that the District Task force and the Empowered Group of Mon District are taking all possible measures to ensure containment and speedy recovery of the positive cases. He also requested the public to continue maintaining social distancing, practice hand hygiene and wear mask at all times.
