Dimapur, April 15: The Dimapur Tribal Apex Hoho (DTAH) has expressed shock at the State Government’s unpreparedness to fight the COVID-10 pandemic, and accused the Government of misleading the people.
In a press release, the DTAH stated that the Government’s repeated claim and statements that the State is “fully geared to fight the pandemic” has turned out to be “total failure and hollow” in terms medical preparedness and in regards to food grains and other essential commodities as well as logistic support faced by the public.
The release alleged that there is no testing laboratory, sufficient personal preventive equipment (PPE) and other protective gears for the front line warriors of COVID-90 in the State especially in Dimapur district, while sub standard protective equipment are supplied to medical staffs, which it said is a crime against humanity.
Also expressing concern over the condition of COVID-19 Hospital in Dimapur, the hoho said it is in pathetic condition “where even the so called VIP rooms are unfit”.
The State Government is answerable to the general public of Nagaland for the deplorable conditions of the hospitals as well as preparedness of medical scenario as a whole, it stated.
It also stated that Dimapur being the “gate way of Nagaland,” the State Government must give priority to Dimapur and demanded that the Government must immediately install/set up a high-tech BSL-3 lab in Dimapur.
The apex hoho further observed that social distancing has been a complete failure in Dimapur district and lack of proper monitoring machineries has only encouraged increased the panic buying and thronging in markets. It urged the Government and district administration to pursue containment in an aggressive manner and appealed to the general public to follow the Government guidelines and instructions during the lockdown period.
