Kohima, June 1: The State Cabinet on Monday decided to let Chief Minister take over the Empowered Committee, which was headed by the Additional Chief Secretary.
The Cabinet meeting convened by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio in the Secretariat conference hall decided to dissolve the Empowered committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary, Sentiyanger and constituted a new empowered committee to be headed by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, Y. Patton as co-chair, Health & Family Welfare Minister, S Pangnyu Phom as a spokesperson, Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy as member secretary, and assisted by several senior Government officials.
The Cabinet meeting comes against the backdrop of the mishandling of returnees to Teunsang and subsequent chain of reactions from various Naga organizations.
The meeting also decided to send all returnees tested negative of COVID-19 to their respective districts to ease the burden and create space for new returnees in Kohima and Dimapur. The returnees from Northeast – green zone will also be moved out to their respective district including returnees from Chennai on May 22 who have tested negative. The returnees would be ferried to their districts from June 2.
The Cabinet meeting also called for a collective fight against COVID-19, which is likely to stay for some time.
Meanwhile the State Government has converted India Gandhi Stadium at Kohima into quarantine centres, which can accommodate up to 500 people. (Page News Service)
