Dimapur, June 14: In what could be an indication of trying times ahead in the State’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, 5 new cases were reported on Sunday taking the total tally to 168 confirmed cases.
What was different of the 5 fresh COVID cases in Nagaland on Sunday was that it was reported not from Dimapur or Kohima – the two districts that have the bulk of positive cases and from which new cases have been reported almost every day since the first three positive cases were reported in the State on May 25.
Sunday’s fresh cases were reported from Mon and Peren districts, the other two districts in the State having active cases.
The first 6 positive cases in Mon town was reported on Saturday and on Sunday another 3 cases were reported taking the total confirmed cases in the district to 9. The first 6 cases in Mon town were detected from Chennai returnees, who reached Mon from Dimapur on June 2. They were tested negative in Dimapur during their 10 days institutional quarantine in Dimapur.
The first COVID-19 positive case in Peren District (CHC Jalukie) was reported on June 4 after a positive patient (Chennai returnee) was sent to the district from Dimapur inadvertently on the night of June 3. Later another positive case was reported from the district. With 2 more positive cases reported on Sunday, the total cases in Peren district now stand at 4.
