Dimapur, September 18: The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has supported the CNSA ultimatum served to the State Government to immediately revoke COVID-19 cess on petrol and diesel.
“Ever since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic and its haywire nature the mediocre denizens livelihood aspects has been aggravated acutely,” it said in a release while endorsing the CNSA demand to the State Government.
“Besides inflation on assortment of commodities in the market the cess on petroleum products is now crippling the economic life of many at stake,” it said.
The LSU urged the Government to dissolve the cess levied.
Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students Union (DENSU) has appealed to the state Government to withdraw the cess duty on petrol/diesel imposed as a consequence of Covid-19.
It said continued levying of such tax at this juncture when the plight of common moan is at its worse is completely unwarranted and unreasonable.
The Union said Nagaland at present appears to have the costliest petroleum rate among the Northeastern states.
“It is a relevant fact that the state has been receiving its due share of relief fund regularly form the Centre to mitigate the state’s expenses and therefore, if the cess duty is not lifted immediately, it will add more burden to the people rather than bringing normalcy in the state,” it added.
