Construction of Sonoru Bridge to commence today

KOHIMA, October 29: The much awaited construction of the Sonoru Bridge connecting the main Secretariat Office and the Kohima City would start from October 30.
It may be mentioned that the Sonoru Bridge was washed away during the monsoon and the Government was unable to construct the bridge. And today, Minister of PWD, Tongpang Ozukum expressed his happiness that the construction of the bridge would be started from tomorrow.
For this construction commencement, a dedicatory prayer was held near the Sonoru area by Rev Keviyiekielie Linyu, pastor Ebenezer Church Kohima in presence of Minister Tongpang Ozukum, Chief Engineer, PWD and his other staffs, Members of Kohima Village Council and land owners particularly from L Khel and Contractors on Monday.
The contractors for the construction of the Sonoru Bridge are Vilielie Khamo and KC Angami.
While addressing the commencement program, the Minister expressed his appreciation to the Kohima Village Council, Kohima Village Youth Organization and the Land owners, particularly L Khel for the concerns and cooperation shown for the construction of the bridge and also sought the continuous support from all to ensure “quality and timely completion” of this project. He also called upon the contractors to ensure quality and timely completion of the project.
Ozukum, while expressing his concern over Kohima being listed as the 2nd most unlivable city in India, called upon the all citizens to collectively rise to keep their city clean and develop.
The Sonoru Bridge will have 50 meters long and 18 meters wide (4 lanning) which will be executed with an amount of Rs. 18.95 crore and it will be constructed in arch model and perhaps, its design is first of its kind in the State. The construction will be completed in 24 months. (NEPS)
