Consider service police deptt as “Blessed Day”: DGP tells police force

Dimapur, February 19: Asserting that the primary duty of the Police is to maintain law & order and provide peace & security to the people, DGP Nagaland, T. John Longkumer, IPS appealed to the Police force to realize that serving the Police department should be considered as a “Blessed Duty” and serve with joy and enthusiasm to deliver justice to its citizens.
The DGP was addressing at the inauguration function of the Yonglok Police Station on February 18. He also asserted that the strength of the Police force lies with the people and the citizen must come forward and extend full cooperation and support to the Police force to maintain peace and tranquility in the area.
Lamenting that Nagaland lacks secure and proper road connection within the border areas and entry to these area is best possible only via Assam with good roads, the DGP pointed out that security and development should go hand in hand and good connectivity of roads is essential not only for development alone but also equally vital for security purpose.
He urged the district administration to have a proper planning for good roads in these border areas. While emphasizing on the importance of record keeping and documentation the DGP urged the Police and the citizens to maintain proper records and documentations of any events for reference which is vital for court judgment in the future.
To keep the reputation of the Nagaland Arm Police Force alive the DGP informed that a Special Task Force of NAP equipped with advance weapons and equipment will be commissioned within two months. He asserted that our NAP forces are professional force and their reputation and excellent service are still appreciated and acknowledge by others. In order to look into the affairs of border areas he informed that SDPO Border will also be deputed at border areas shortly and the strength of the Police force of Longleng would be upgraded to SP level to strengthen the Police force.
The DGP lauded the SP Longleng and his officials for taking the initiative for functioning of Yonglok Police Station. He also lauded the Yonglok village council for taking care of the buildings without any damage since 2008 and assisting the Police in various ways. Earlier, he unveiled the inauguration Plaque.
Deputy Commissioner Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam in his short speech congratulated the DEF Longleng for inauguration of Police Station in the border area and thanked the people of Yonglok for maintaining peace and harmony in the area.
The DC also appealed to the public to extend all cooperation and support to the Police to discharge their duties and responsibility efficiently, He was also optimistic that the people will utilize and avail the Police serve to maintain peaceful law & order in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the NGOs the President PPC, the President Namsang Area Citizens and the Chairman of Yonglok village council shared their grievances living in the border and thanked the DGP and the Police Department for inauguration of Yonglok Police Station. The Technical report was proposed by Er. Hutoshe, Project Engineer PEP, Alichen Division.
Earlier, the welcome address was pronounced by Yanagba Konyak, NPS, Superintendent of Police, Longleng and invocation by Pastor Police Baptist Church, Longleng. The Program was chaired by Atopu Sumi, NPS, Addl. SP, Longleng and vote of thanks was proposed by Nganshimakok, IPS, DIGP (Range) Mokokchung. Plantation drive was carried out by the DGP and the officers around the Police Station.
The programme was attended by Imlisunep IGP, Aotemsu DIGP, Rovishi Comdt. 12th IR, Raghuramarajan SP Mokokchung, Lakha Khoza Comdt. 13th IR and Kuhovi Sumi Comdt. 2nd NAP besides other Police ranks and files, the ADC & EAC Tamlu, Government officers, NGOs and the people of Namsang Area.
