Dimapur, April 7: Both Congress and the NPF today tried to woo the minority communities of Dimapur in favour of Congress Lok Sabha candidate, K L Chishi in a joint rally organized Sunday evening. Prominent leaders of both the parties spoke on the grievances faced by the minority communities in Nagaland and India as a whole and tried to give a solution to their problems.
Convenor of election coordination committee of NPF Dimapur district, T Lotha alleged that all Media have been paid by Narendra Modi and for which all the news channels broadcasts only Modi’s campaign as if there were no other political parties worth mentioning.
Asking people to refrain from watching news channels till the results of Lok Sabha elections, Lotha said after the poll results, the name ‘Modi’ would be lost into oblivion.
Former MLA and Congress veteran, S I Jamir spoke at length about the plights and sufferings of the minorities in India and said that if Modi’s policy penetrates in Nagaland, there would be total chaos and anarchy in the state. He said together with NPF, the Nagaland Congress under the leadership of K Therie is gaining strength with the active participation of the people to obstruct the communal forces from entering Nagaland.
Jamir also requested all including females to cast their vote in favour of the INC candidate KL Chishi, a veteran leader who well understands the plights of the people.
“Modi’s policy is destabilizing India,” he further added.
Former Parliamentary Secretary, Khekaho Assumi said, “This election is not between Indian National Congress plus NPF versus NDPP and BJP combine but it is about India’s unity and diversity and to save the nation from unwanted communalism. Both the parties stand for the unity of India where as NDPP and BJP stands for the divisions of India.”
He further asserted that BJP was good during the days of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as there was communal harmony but under Modi and Amit Shah, the BJP has been converted into an engine of violence, communalism and bloodsheds.
Explaining what is Hinduism, Khekaho said, “Hinduism is a religion of peace and non-violence but under Modi and RSS, Hinduism has been degraded. There will be communal war if Modi is re-elected. Both Christians and Muslims and other minorities will have to endure more sufferings and killings”.
Khekaho further added, “Dimapur is a mini India and since 1963 no communal wars were fought or erupted between Christians, Muslims and Hindus in Nagaland. We need to maintain the tradition of secularism and brotherhood not only in Nagaland but in other states of India too.”
Speaking on the occasion, NPF Central Minority president, Bishnu Bhattacharjee said that the present Modi Government has no issues, they create confusions and divisions.
He said NPF created environment for supporting the secular force of the nation. “We are a secular country and we should support secular party,” he added.
Nagaland Congress President, K. Therie asked the gathering whether one should lead a suppressed life amidst communalism and violence or strive for peace, prosperity and development.
He questioned the role of his friend and Lok Sabha MP, Tokheho Yepthomi when the CAB was introduced in the Lok Sabha. He alleged that Tokheho instead of defending the state from invasion by the illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the form of CAB rather choose to flee from New Delhi and escaped to his native village in Zunheboto.
Tokheho was hiding from the real issues and how on earth can we trust the same man who cheated the Naga population, he said.
The NPCC President also questioned Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s style of autocratic functioning.
Stating that Rio consults none, simply uttered that Article 371 A will protect the interest of the state, Therie explained that “CAB and Article 371 A are different and no way co related”.
“Rio made several ‘U’ turns on CAB,” Therie alleged.
“We made him Chief Minister, Shurhozelie and TR Zeliang supported him as the CM. He went to LS saying that “he doesn’t wants to be CM anymore and so handed the CM post to TR Zeliang. Later he betrayed Zeliang, and others. With his money he can manipulate anyone as per his whims and fancies,” Therie added.
On the recent controversy which erupted as forged signature of Rio extending support to INC, Therie said the signature of Rio and Konyak looks original.
“Whatever it is people understands that Rio is manipulating everyone and now he is even kicking BJP his closest ally after extracting out whatever he could from BJP and trying to befriend the Congress party for his own personal interest”, he said.
Therie further asserted that he had requested Rahul Gandhi to bring solutions to Naga political issue, adding Rahul Gandhi has assured to carry forward the Naga political talks by including all the stake holders and will fight for the rights of the Nagas.
Therie further assured the gathering that “if Congress form the government with the help of the coalition than the non Nagas will be able to enter the Municipal or Assembly either by election or as nominees.
It was applauded with joy by the large gatherings.
“Dimapur will be transformed into a major developed city and interior areas of Nagaland and other towns will be given a huge uplift in terms of development and industrialization, Therie said adding the party has much expectations and hopes in the youths who will act as messengers of peace and developments in the state.
