Combat Sports Festival from Oct 22 in Kohima

Kohima, July 24: Come October and people will enjoy one of the biggest Combat Sports Festival organized by 3E (Elite Entertainment Enterprise) Nagaland at Kohima Local Ground (Khouchiezie).
Making the formal announcement during a press conference here this evening at Capital Convention Centre, Managing Director of 3E, Kethosituo Elvis Mepfuo in presence of his office bearers and members said the Combat Sports Festival scheduled from October 22 to 27, 2018 will feature the Naga WrestleMania7 (King of the Ring Series 2018) orgnnised by 3E Nagaland, Nagaland Taekwondo League organised by Nagaland Taekwondo Association and x-1 International (Mixed Martial Arts).
He said that the preliminary rounds of Naga WrestleMania 7 will he played separately in two weight categories – Light weight (74 kg and below) and Heavy weight (above 74 kg) and after a certain round, remaining wrestlers in both categories will be grouped together to vie for the King of the Ring championship.
Unlike previous editions, he said there will be no individual category championship but wrestlers who survive up to certain stages of competition from qualification till King of The Ring Championship will be awarded cash prizes.
This change in format is brought about in order to wind up the event in a day as it is observed that injury sustained in category championships often leads to non participation in the King Of The Ring championship, he said, adding that cash prize details will be notified when registration starts in the later part of August 2018.
He also informed that Nagaland Taekwondo League 2018 will be organized by Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) for which modalities are being worked out. In due course of time, NTA will announce the date, time and other details of the event. Interested players may therefore, either wait for NTA’s announcement or get in touch with NTA officials for more information, he said.
Mepfuo also informed that another combat sports, x-1 International (Mixed Martial Arts) simply called, is a new MMA promotion that has been launched very recently with a series of fight planned across the country, of which the Kohima show will be one much anticipated event.
There will be two fight cards – ‘An Open Card’ which will be drawn from open registration of interested amateur fighters in different weight classes and ‘A Closed Card’ which will be predetermined with already established fighters vying for championship titles.
The open card participants will get the chance to climb rankings to carve a career as semi-pro and pro fighters in future, he said.
Registration for open fight card will commence simultaneously with NagaWrestleMania7 in the later part of August, for which registration outlets will be notified some days ahead, he said.
Further informing that the Combat Sports Festival will also feature ethnic food and merchandise stall, Mepfuo invited interested parties to contact 3E Nagaland for management of stalls on tender basis.
