Collective efforts required to make environment pollution-free: Khamo

KOHIMA, JUNE 5: Nagaland’s Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo on Monday morning launched the Mega Tree plantation drive in commemoration of 50th anniversary of Phek district formation under the banner of Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) at Sedzü, Thenyizu.
Addressing the launching event, Khamo calls for collective efforts of every individual, families, village, town, Government Department, civil societies to come forward and take responsibility to take active part in creating awareness and rebuilding the ecosystem, environment free from pollution.
He pointed out that humans have disrupted the planet’s average equilibrium, which is gradually making the environment unfit for living and endangering human existence.
He maintained that the Government of Nagaland is taking keen interest and initiative for the environment by organising various events on the occasion, joining with the global communities to commemorate the World Environment Day.
Dwelling that the United Nations Environmental Programme initiated in 1973 has continued till date, the Advisor also appreciated the efforts of the public leaders, Government officials and participants in coming forward enthusiastically to the call of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO).
He also pointed out the needs to check the global warming through plantation of trees, preservation of wildlife and flora and fauna so as to make the environment healthy and for everyone to enjoy a cleaner, greener and more prosperous future while he also pointed out the needs to maintain the surroundings safe and tidy.
Further he stressed on the need to make the environment more friendly and undo the damage that have been caused while he viewed that beautification will also attract visitors and tourists.
Meanwhile delivering the keynote address Satahi Shijoh, Finance Secretary Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), highlighted the significance of the world environment day which the CPO in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Phek district formation have initiated the Mega tree plantation drive.
A short speech was also delivered by Medothi Rhakho, VCC Thenyizu and the programme was led by Avezo Kevin Kapuh, President Chakhesang Students Union (CSU).
Following the launching event Advisor Khamo toured to the stretch from Sedzü till Dzulhami village by visiting and encouraging the participants at various locations with the public leaders and representatives of the CPO frontal organization wherein he also planted trees at ADC Office Chozuba and at Dzülhami village.
