CMO Dimapur issues food safety awareness


Dimapur, May 1: The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dimapur has notified that there are many defaulting food business operators (FBO) in Dimapur District manufacturing/ packaging, storing and selling food articles including packaged drinking water of 10/20 litres jars without FSSAI and ISI/BIS certification numbers.
The CMO said Food Safety and Standard Act 2006 prohibits selling of any food articles to consumers without manufacturing date/best before date, expiry date, net quantity (weight/volume), Veg and Non-Veg logo, FSSAI, BIS number, manufacturers detailed address, etc in their respective package labels. He cautioned that defaulters are punishable with fine up to Rs 2 lakhs with prohibition order of selling such food articles.
The CMO requested consumers not to purchase any food articles which does not have proper label (i.e. misbranded food).
In case of complaint related to food safety, one may submit a written complaint/letter to the designated officer of food safety, Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur, for further necessary action in the interest of public/ consumers.
