CM inspects NH 29

Kohima, September 26: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today inspected the damaged portion of NH 29 at KMC dumping site which had been cut off since July 31 following major landslide and road subsidence owing to incessant rain during the months of July and August this year.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the restoration works in the presence of Chief Engineer (National Highways) Er Kezha Theunuo, EE (NH), SDO (NH) and officials of the State Government. The Chief Engineer informed the Chief Minister that the road will be opened for light vehicles (to and fro) while heavy vehicles and passenger buses going down towards Dimapur will be allowed. However, heavy vehicles and passenger buses coming up towards Kohima will still have to take the Peducha – Tsiesama Road. The road is scheduled to be opened on September 29.
It may be mentioned that this NH 29 from Jotsoma lower bypass to upper bypass near KMC check gate is under BRO but due to lack resources, they were unable to take up restoration of the landslide and subsidence area.
As such, the State Government had entrusted PWD (NH) to take up the restoration work on August 12, 2018. Restoration works started the same day and is continuing till date, the Chief Engineer informed. (Page News Service)
